Even though the wooden wristwatch market is still young, there are already numerous vendors. We would like to present to you the wooden wristwatches by the brand Laimer, which are available in our store.

Laimer is a young brand that was founded in South Tyrol in 2012.

Patrick Laimer, founder and CEO of LAiMER GmbH, has previously worked in the wood processing industry as a carpenter for over ten years, his love for this material has only been growing since. Apart from new developments, protecting the environment is another big part of the company. That’s why they only use FSC certificated processed waste wood from the furniture industry. The processed wood can be maple, sandalwood, zebrawood, or hackberry.

Laimer- they have rightly identified time’s impulses and combined elegance and lifestyle with their wooden wristwatches.

Looking at their website, it is evident that sustainability and protection of the environment play a big part during the manufacturing of wooden wristwatches. They solely use remains that arise when furniture or interior decoration is made, and that otherwise would go to the bin. That’s why no new tree must be cut down to create a watch. The following wood types are especially good for manufacturing and are often used by Laimer.

Maplewood

Maplewood comes from the maple tree, which belongs to the deciduous kind of trees and bushes that are especially common in a lot of parts of Eurasia and North America. Maplewood is often used for manufacturing furniture. Sycamore wood for example is one of the most valuable hardwoods. Its surface is easy to work with, can be polished, heated and dyed. The wood can also be split without too much force and manages quite well when being lacquered. Here, you can see an example for the Laimer Men’s Watch 001 made from maplewood.

Sandalwood

Sandalwood (Santalum album) comes from the sandalwood family. The tree is cultivated in many tropical areas and has various uses. Two different woods are sold under that name, they come with different features and uses, and originate from different trees. There is red sandalwood, a dye-wood, and the white and yellow wood. That’s what you can see in this darkly dyed sandalwood watch in our shop: the Laimer Men’s watch 0018.

Zebrawood

Palmalatta comes from the subfamily of the Caesalpiniaceae, that are part of the legume family (Fabaceae). Those two kinds are commonly prevalent in the tropical west of Central Africa. Both provide this tropical hardwood which can be found under the names zebrawood and zingana. The wood comes in a yellowy white with dark brown strands, which stripe the wood, and a grey splint. It is quite hard and therefore perfect for creating wooden wristwatches. We’d like to show you the Laimer Men’s Watch 0052, which is made of zebrawood and comes with a noticeable grain.

A watch made from wood – is it as good as a traditional one?

We can definitely say “Yes” to that. But there are some things you have to keep in mind since this really is a watch made from wood. This means that the watch, its casing and wristband can be made of wood. Therefore, they are quite a bit more sensitive than they equivalents made of steel or metal. Wooden wristwatches automatically don’t come with a higher water density than 3 ATM. Material like this should be kept away from water, so that the wood does not swell or warp.

If you keep those things in mind while wearing a wooden wristwatch, you will take the same kind of pleasure in these examples as in every other watch.
