The sun is the closest star to the earth and represents the center of the solar system. It is by far the most important source of energy for life on Earth. The sun is a dwarf star (yellow dwarf), which is in the development stage of the main sequence. It contains 99.86% of the mass of the solar system. At 1.4 million kilometers, its diameter is around 110 times that of the earth. The sun’s surface shows a changing number of sunspots that are related to strong magnetic fields. In addition to other phenomena, they are referred to as solar activity. Solar radiation is one of the basic requirements for the development of life on earth. The sun draws the energy for solar radiation from the fusion of hydrogen to form helium. The course of the sky of the sun constitutes the day and the year. Sun cultures have worshipped the sun since prehistoric times. The astronomical symbol of the sun is ☉.
Our AMS 9639 sundial
Our clock of the week AMS 9639 consists of a multi-colored, weatherproof metal case in the shape of a sun. The metal is rusty yellow-gold in a retro clock look. In addition to the metal, the mineral glass protects the dial. The dial is beige with black Arabic numerals as well as hands, and can display hours, minutes and seconds. The metal bars that form the sun’s rays are attached to the central sun-shaped dial. Thanks to the weatherproof case, the vintage wall clock can be hung indoors as well as outdoors, just like an outdoor clock. Due to the special size of 70 centimeters in diameter, the clock also serves as an XXL clock and is shipped as bulky goods outside Germany.
