Our clock of the week is the AMS 1104 table clock, made of a grayish black slate case in the shape of a stone. In this post you can find out more about the classic table clock, what the material slate actually is and how it can be used as a perfect decoration for your living space.
What is slate?
The formation of slate can be traced back to a several million year old process. Heat, pressure and movements on the sea floor qualify as perfect conditions for the creation of the sedimentary rock. The coincidence of fine-grained masses of clay mud and pressure produces this claystone. The subsequent mountain formation through lateral pressure contributed to the creation of the slate as we know it in its current form.
The slate color defines its uniqueness, which is why it is usually not varnished. The color spectrum ranges from dark blue gray to a slate with a slight green tint to red and purple. Slates are being used more and more for many purposes other than its actual one.
High-quality slates are used especially in modern houses for the design of bathrooms and kitchens as a stylistic element and a contrast to purist shapes. Due to its high durability, slate panels are still used to clad houses today. Their use in horticulture is also not to be ignored. Since slate is ecologically sustainable, it can be disposed without any problems. Especially in combination with modern lighting technology, the slate gives a very special effect.
The AMS 1104 table clock
The clock of the week AMS 1104 is a 21 cm high and 12 cm wide table clock made of slate. The gray-black slate case is naturally shaped like a stone and therefore has unpolished edges. Only the side of the dial is smooth. There is a decentralized silver-colored ring made of aluminum as dial. Black Roman numerals can be seen on the ring. There are also silver-colored hands that show the hour and minutes. It is a silent clock for the living room with a quartz mechanism.
